-
Creation of a Desired Mood and Atmosphere:Different types of lighting can set a specific ambiance, like a relaxing glow in a bedroom or a bright, focused workspace in an office.
-
Functionality:Selecting fixtures that provide appropriate light levels for activities like reading, cooking, or getting ready in the bathroom is essential.
-
Aesthetic appeal:Light fixtures are a design element that should complement the overall style of a room as well as high light and contribute to the focal point of the room. Sometimes the light fixture itself can be the focal point of the room such as a beautiful chandelier in a ballroom.
-
Task-oriented lighting:Different rooms require different lighting needs. Layered lighting with ambient, task, and accent lights is best to check all the boxes of functionality while giving the room exceptional depth and beauty.
-
Energy efficiency:Choosing energy-saving bulbs and fixtures can contribute to cost savings. All of our fixtures are equipped with LED light sources which require a fraction of the energy used by other sources.
- Diameter calculation: (Room length + Room width) in feet = Fixture diameter in inches. For example, for a room 10'x12' the formula would be: 10+ 12 = 22 so the light should be about 22" in diameter.
- Height calculation: Room height in feet x 2.5-3 inches = Fixture height in inches. For a room with a 9' ceiling the formula would be: 9 x 3 = 27 thus the height of the light should be about 27".
- Dimensions for lights going over a table: For a light fixture over a table, the ideal dimensions are typically about half to three quRTE of the table dimensions. For a round table that would be 1/2 to 2/3rds of the diameter. For rectangular table the length of the chandelier should be about 1/2 to 2/3rds of the length of the table, meaning if your table is 60" inches long, your light should be 30"- 40" long. For ideal proportions, the shape of the light would mirror or approximate the shape of the dining table. For example, a rectangular light for a rectangular table, a round light for a round table or an oval light to go with an oval table.
